about

Two songs out of 15,000 or so that I had some fun covering.

"Bless You" is a beautiful, uncharacteristically jazzy song from John Lennon's 1974 album "Walls And Bridges". This piano based arrangement was actually performed at 5 Towns College in Dix Hills NY sometime in 2006. Just me on piano vocal and Cathy Kreger playing acoustic guitar. This is the demo I gave her to learn from, sans the string intro. Mostly Moptop was later invited into the college recording studio to lay down a more fuller band version, which we did. Unfortunately, when it was time to mix, the tracks were somehow lost. That version never saw the light of day. Nice.

"Hurting Each Other" was originally a hit for The Carpenters in the 1972. They had several hits I really loved, many of which were written by Paul Williams and Roger Nichols. This one, composed by Gary Geld and Peter Udell I always enjoyed especially that A/D chord before the the hook. The hook itself, always seemed a little too sweet for my taste from what preceded it. So I beefed up the chords and made it a lot jazzier / darker. Since the song was not in my range I asked my friend Debbie Jones to come down to my studio and sing it. She seemed to enjoy the experience and even came up with the vocal intro idea.
