about

Before we closed up shop at Backdoor Studios, in Huntington Station (a 24 Track recording facility) we held a Christmas party there to celebrate our accomplishments with Backdoor Records. We had some success with Marci Geller's dance number "Shake You Up" as well as Souled Out's house parody "Go House Yourself". Not to mention the many records that Chris Pati recorded and produced there that ended up on major labels. We were also celebrating the fact that our lease ran out (the owner - Bob Minetta was moving down south) and we were heading into the uncharted territory of the coming 90's. In less than a month we would end up moving all the equipment to a carriage house a few miles east to Centerport, NY where the great romantic composer Rachmaninoff was known to vacation at during the Summertime. That studio was called Modern Voices Recording.

In essence most of us were a bunch of seasoned songwriters looking for an avenue to get our music out to the public. We were in our mid to late 20's with big egos that were to the best of our abilities kept at bay. Having worked with all the musicians on a one to one basis, I found it hard to take sides with any personal issues. I loved all of these amazing characters and I knew that this was a one time event that would never line up again; thus, this recording and it's corresponding video (which is not yet public).

For me, the highlight is us covering "Gorgo Twain Has Gone Hawaiian". This was the first time I ever performed one of my songs live. It was a revelation of joy that has stuck with me ever since.

Basically, this is a jam of original material (some improvised) with a few covers thrown in. We never practiced together and clearly the object was just to have fun. For the most part, I think we accomplished that.
