A Brian Wilson inspired number. I programmed a cheap little beat into the Mirage's sequencer and recorded it to tape. I then improvised the entire tune in one sitting. Nick DiMauro really enjoyed it when I first played it for him. In fact, he did a great mix of it which ultimately ended up in the "who knows where" file. A year later I re-sang the vocal twice and remixed it onto PCM. My sister and Gian DiMauro remember the original vocal and liked that one better. It was totally out of tune and un-confident as far as I was concerned but maybe there was innocence about the original I couldn't re-capture. Who knows? Certainly not any new listeners, that's for sure. The lyrics are rather bizarre. I'm just as baffled as you are. Where did they come from? Probably The Enquirer tabloid. I know Nick and Gian’s mom was never a big fan of them. I guess they are somewhat brutal. But greed will conjure up that kind of negative energy. On a positive note, the solo was probably the first decent one I'd ever played. The sound and feel seems right on the money. Note how long the last pitch of the solo lasts. It just keeps going over the top of the hook. Very reminiscent of Donald Fagen’s synth solo on I.G.Y.)

lyrics

3 BOYS (RELATED TO AN AGING TYCOON)

3 boys set down a rocker then they gave the man a kiss -
They said, "Smile dad just look on the bright side by noon you won't exist."
3 boys fixing his muzzle chained him by his wrists
The old man put up a struggle and clenched his spotted fist
The OLD MAN.

3 boys positioned the mirror reflecting on his face
Hot sun, the desert surrounding the leather 'round his waist
The frail screams, the buzzards assuming a meal to be fit for a king
3 boys stepped into the shadows and counted all his rings

WELL AIN'T IT GREAT TO BE YOUNG AND SINGLE AND RELATED TO AN AGING TYCOON?
YOU COULD MAKE IT YOUR RIGHT TO BE EVIL
AND WHEN YOU'RE SLIGHTLY GRAY
YOUR KIDS CAN DO IT TO YOU
'CAUSE THEY'RE RELATED TO AN AGING TYCOON

Singing :

WELL AIN'T IT GREAT TO BE YOUNG AND SINGLE AND RELATED TO AN AGING TYCOON?
YOU COULD MAKE IT YOUR RIGHT TO BE EVIL
AND WHEN YOU'RE SLIGHTLY GRAY
YOUR KIDS CAN DO IT TO YOU
YEAH, WHEN YOU'RE SLIGHTLY GRAY
AND YOU'RE AN AGING TYCOON
