AS THE FIRST SIGN OF PANIC SETS IN

Nick DiMauro once again, had me rolling on the control room floor with acres of existential laughter with his “Jacque Cousteau” impersonation. He improvised most of the dialogue over a piece of music I titled “Gradually Less Harmless”. The whole deal was rendered on a 24 track MCI tape machine. Simultaneously, Chris Pati was upstairs about to bring some waitresses (he picked up from the “Venus” Greek diner) down to see MVR Studios. God only knows what they thought with all the screaming Nick was doing. Man, that was funny shit! Oh, yeah and I remember Bob Ball was mastering this piece one night in his little basement computer room. He kept going over the piece trying to get the last bit of warmth out of that screaming –blasting it through his speakers. His wife came down and sat on the steps just glaring at him like he was out of his friggin’ mind. She wanted to kill him. That must have been priceless!

lyrics

Jacque Cousteau : These are the men of Calypso. Battling the harshness
of waves and weather; never forgetting that they are but a whale's testicle away from the brutal reality of death. Death: cold, unforgiving, unrelenting, inevitable. As the first signs of panic set in the men of the Calypso are struck with bitter irony that the ocean, a perpetual source of oxygen for this tiny planet and perhaps our greatest symbol of life, has become a death trap. Unconscionable. A watery grave from which there is no escape.

Baby Brian Rivera : (coughing)

JC : No escape.

Baby Brian Rivera : (baby talk - faster coughing)

JC : Buttress between the bars of his tiny crib the unsuspecting sibling reaches out in a friendly attempt to communicate with a beast.

Baby Brian Rivera : Uh-oh

JC : A beast that is going to make him into a sandwich.

Baby Brian Rivera : A sandwich?

(Gratuitous violence plays here...)
