about

© 1994 by John Tabacco and Nick DiMauro

JT and Nick are caught driving to Boot Road for the umpteenth time to spy on an unsuspecting television mop vender. It’s a long and silly story that will be told in all it’s existential glory as soon as the boys land a multi-million dollar record deal.

Don’t hold your breath.

lyrics

BACK TO BOOT ROAD AGAIN (EVERYTHING SUCKS)

ND and JT fake scatting to Chet Baker....

ND : I'm so depressed.

More silly scatting...

JT : I'm a big white horse

ND : I'm a big white whore... I don't get it so...

JT : Ah ha...

ND : Where the hell? She hasn't even gone on yet.

JT : I think he wanted to take them out to lunch this way he could see...

ND : Under their dresses

JT : Under their dress

ND : I wanna take a look under your

JT : Under your dress... Whoaaaaaa. Ha ha ha ha ha, hah...
(Sings a parody of Donald Fagen's "Maxine") : Some folks say we're restless..

ND : You've definitely ahh

JT : (continues singing) : They say we're much too...

ND : You've smoothed out so much.

JT : ... young... What ?

ND : You. You've mellowed.

JT : In what way?

ND : Well you're not as... this, this trip doesn't bother you as much.

JT : Oh, it bothers the shit out of me. It's just that who wants to hear somebody complain all day long?

ND : Nah, nah, nah, nah... You can’t. There’s no way. Ya, you couldn’t stop yourself from complaining if you were that - upset about it.

JT : Ah, what are you talking about?

ND : You’re not as upset about this trip as you used to be. I know it. Ya media beat now.

JT : I think that I realize...

ND : Look at him. He can’t! He can’t!

JT : There’s no way that I’m more mell... I was downstairs yesterday, I was gonna cry.
I was sitting there trying to write something and people were talking - I’m like, this is what I’m doing. What am I doing? WHAT AM I DOING?

ND : Making money.

JT : THIS IS NOT WHAT I’M DOING! I’M NOT MAKING ANYTHING HERE!

ND : You are. You are.

JT : There’s nothing. I’m, I’m not gonna get anything from this trip. It’s nothing.

ND : $155.00

JT : It’s gone. It’s gone for something I don’t even care about.

ND : Yeah, but..

JT : I got nothin’ to show for it...

ND : But you had to come up with it somewhere.

JT : Here’s what I have to show for it. A bunch of tape running that I could laugh at. That’s the only thing.

ND : Well, it’s more than a lot people have.

JT : I’m so... I’m not, I haven’t mellowed out. I’ve died. That’s what happened. Ya see?
I died. The last couple a trips, that’s it. I’ve realized this is all I’ve amounted to and no one will ever hear anything I ever do and things totally suck! And there’s nothing I can do. Re - resigned to that fact. Nothing I can do. I will sit here and eventually I will not be here. I realize that. So, that’ s not mellowing out. That’s coming from a realization that everything sucks. So I guess in a way I’m a little happier now! If anything.

ND : (laughs)

JT : There’s nothing to worry about. Everything totally sucks. I realize that. There’s nothing I can do. If Victoria Principal came into the room and sat on my face, it wouldn’t even make a difference. It really wouldn’t. ‘Cause I would go home and still be that little nothing that makes no difference at all. It’s ok though. It’s alright.
I’m telling myself it’s alright.

ND : Oh..

JT : And that’s - and that’s where I am. Right now as we speak. Going to Boot Road for the I don’t know for the 50th time perhaps? 50 times. 50, 60 times? I don’t know.
(Continues singing Fagen’s song “Maxine”) : Some folks say we’re restless. They say I’m much too dumb! I don’t know. Alright.
