For Nick DiMauro's 33rd birthday I thought (I hoped) he would get a kick out of hearing some of his unfinished songs get the royal Tabacco treatment. Three songs in particular : "Bobbie Dear", "Miracle's Happen, and an untitled song that I turned into "Way Too Many Secrets". These were pieces where he just laid down the basics onto a VHS tape and never went back to finish them, which is every composer's right. Working so close with Nick on a lot of music, I had the privilege to hear all three of these tunes from scratch and they were wonderful ideas. They became part of my soundtrack. So, taking a real risk, I figured I'd give him my take on these tunes. Maybe he'd be inspired to reconnect with them and finish them in his own way. "Bobbie Dear" was a big production in my mind and I just didn't have the time to figure out all his twisted chords and produce such a spectacle. The best I could do was remember vague lyrical ideas he had and finish the lyrics. That was pretty easy. Then I overdubbed my vocals on top of his existing track. It was nice idea but a little to demo like for me to present to him as a birthday gift. So I re-programmed "Miracles Can Happen" which was easier to realize. The production came out more polished and that's what I presented to him. I don't remember if he liked it or he hated me for even attempting to reconstitute his music. "Way Too Many Secrets" was done from scratch on a whim a few years later.
I have no idea what he thought of that one either. In any event, Nick hasn't yet sued me so I guess I'm in the clear. He's such a talented dude who tosses off his musical talent like it's nothing. He just doesn't care and that's a great loss for those of us who love to hear great music.

lyrics

BOBBIE DEAR

Police in helicopter :
X : I think that's the body.
Y : Jesus.
X : That's her.
Y : Alright let's go in.

Been at least ten years or so since Bobbie dear's been dead
Had a vision just last night of her singing in my bed
How time can blur those precious moments that we spend
Counting reasons not to cry
Feeling dizzy
I could...

Lie around forever in this state of deja-vu
Hating all creation for the torture she went through
Just a tiny gem who liked to sing to my guitar
But all the science and the prayers can never bring her back
Is this something I must live with till I'm dead?
Till I'm dead

Kissed her in the morning as I headed out for Grace
It was a perfect peaceful picture both our lives were set in place
Somewhere down the sunset, heard her screaming out my name
It was the darkest deepest screaming ever etched inside my brain

And I loved her so
Oh I loved her so
Oh I loved her so

And all the reasons and the whys
They keep on spinning
Hissing
Burning
Twisting
Churning in my head...
In my head
In my head

IN MY HEAD!

Oh I loved her so
Oh I loved her so
Oh I loved her so
Loved her so
