This semi-instrumental is a series of ideas that ultimately ended up in other songs. The chord progression to Mama Used To Whisper In My Ear is in there. The chord structure and variation of the melody to the live section in 27b-6 is in there as well as other pieces that were never finished. The orchestration for the most part is kind of mellow, and there is a certain Adult Contemporary wall paper attitude about it that borders on corny, jazzy and muzak (FUZAK, as Meryl Mathews and I have been known to call it, which rhymes with Prozac if you know what I mean.) So much so, I had no choice but to juxtapose Nick reciting the "It's Out There Feeding On Itself" prose on top of it. Who would have expected it? Nobody in particular I guess. That’s just my sense of humor.

Note : Twenty years later some of the jazzy chord progression found in this piece was used in the song "Hate Divides / Love Multiples", on the CD "Unfulfilled Shopping Cart Syndrome".

lyrics

It's out there feeding on itself.
Feeding on me - feeding and feeding.
It's following my every move.
My every meaningless move.
The nausea.
The decay.
The violation of all things sacred and true.
All that is pointless and dark and diseased approaching...
Unstoppable.
Unyielding.
Uninhibited.
Spreading feverishly through the chaos.
Exponential in all it consumes.
There is no exit.
No exception.

Used to be caught without a reason and on a midnight train
Maybe to find what I was missing - lost from way back when
I really don't know
Now I'm just slow and old
