This is the first tune Nick and I wrote together. It was never quite polished but had some great ideas. Nick wrote and sang the first half in his bedroom when the 8 track machine was there. I loved what he had and told him I would write a middle section for it. I went home and put something down on my 2 track AKAI. I called him up soon after and played it for him. I was nervous to say the least. He seemed to like it and we proceeded to link the 2 sections together at his house. I played drums to his shaker part and then put down cheesy rhythm guitar that is reminiscent of 10CC's "The Worst Band In The World". The vocal after the middle section was recorded in my room, thus the texture is totally different than the first verse. The lyrics were completed at my folks house on the deck one delightful summer day. We laughed a lot, especially about what the Chinese say: "There's always room for someone new!" Obviously being commercial was a distant thought and probably for the better.

lyrics

GARDEN GIRL (Ain't That True?))

Ya came across the garden girl
In ya "silveret" and runners too
Ya didn't know that I was there
But I watched you for an hour or two
You don't always walk that way
Somethin' must have fallin' through

Ya came to me one rainy night
That we, fell in love for somethin' new
A wonder world in "dippy light"
We conjured up a lie for two
But lovin' goes on that way
Just wastin' time girl
Ain't that true?

Some people say that love's a drug
that'll cause you nothin' but pain
Well, they maybe right but it tastes so fine
Just bring out the bamboo shoots
And the anodyne

Another "dago" flyin' by
N' the boredom make it hard to chew
Maybe he'll get up this time
But I doubt it cause he's through with you
You know what the Chinese say:
"There's always room for someone new"

We played around a little while
But ah, girl you know your time is through
We're movin' in a different style
It's time to try a different crew
But lovin' goes on that way
Just wastin' time dear
Ain't that true?
