Song #3. It started off with an idea my sister sang to me one morning in a Mike McDonald voice.
Since she wasn't too keen on remembering it, I quickly played some chords and sang it into the cheap built in cassette recorder that the Wurlitzer Organ people were nice enough to include.
Nick liked the hook and we finished the verse soon after. It has a curious break in it going to the melodic organ solo that Nick improvised (sang) and then transcribed off of another cheesy cassette recorder. We didn't really have a way of getting to the solo harmonically so a drum break like Fagen's "Green Flower Street" sort of did the trick. Actually, when I re- mixed this piece at MVR in 2008 I tried to clean up the break. There were awful punching noises everywhere. Unfortunately, I erased too much of the break and had to insert a tom roll and snare break sample to cover it up. I think it works...yeah...umm.

I played live drums, Nick played bass and keys and Jerry Palisi played Stratocaster. The whole thing was inspired by Fagen's "Nightfly" album.
