This instrumental was originally conceived on Pat Adkins drum kit. Just before Pat came in for a Marci Geller session I quickly improvised five pieces. The first one was “Bounce It Here!”, followed by “There’s Nowhere To Run”, some other unfinished ideas and then this “Bob” piece. Since it has a somewhat asymmetrical foundation the difficulty in turning it into something cohesive, intensifies. I had no idea what to do with it, so of course this was the first piece I attempted to orchestrate. The ending 5/4 beat was a drum riff I learned from Nick DiMauro for his tune “Tamberlin”. The phone talk at the intro and outro is Bob Ball in an authentic excited mood. This time for good reason. The “real time” Sound Archeology™ Mastering process was in full swing... finally.
