This track was originally part of a suite called "Dark Clouds", recorded on the Tascam 8 Track reel to reel back in 1986. In late 1992 the basic chord structure of that piece kind of morphed into an instrumental idea I did not know what to do with. In 1993, I asked Nick DiMauro what he thought of the track. He was somewhat familiar with my original 1986 idea but suggested I do something cooler with the drum beat. "Like what?", I asked him. He kindly programmed a funky drum track and it stuck. I refined the horn parts and presented it to Meryl Mathews and she dug it. We tried to work it as a Fuzzy Gray Logic tune but for some reason it did not come to fruition. Only some melodic rhythmic phrases came from that attempt and they were grafted onto the 1992 song "Come On And See The Alien Side". However, Meryl did end up playing the keyboard solo on what I now called "Funky Conservative Clothesure". Later that year I played F.C.C. to Gian DiMauro. He dug it and we quickly re-imagined this instrumental version into the song "The Weight Of Nature". This of course is the Gearhead Freaks' classic that is on the CD "Not A Pretty Picture" and also on the CD "Mostly Original Covers" (me and an acoustic guitar). The "Funky Conservative Clothesure" track lay dormant for a few years but was eventually used in 2002 as the main theme for the rock musical "The Miseducation of Willie The Hill". I wrote a new melody and added lyrics to it that went along with Nigey Lennon's libretto. In fact, if you listen to that track "They Call Him Willie", you can pick out a few melodic / rhythmic phrases derived from "The Weight Of Nature" and "Come On An See The Alien Side".

Fast forward to 2014 I approached the talented Bob Stander with the idea of him producing one of my songs. Thinking long and hard about what to give Bob, "Safe Conservative Clothesure" felt like the right one to work on. I refined the original 1986 lyrics and tighten the double bridge. Finding time to finish production was not so easy but after about a year the song was completed. It's the most expensive recording I've ever done and certainly it's DNA, one of the most convoluted.

lyrics

SAFE CONSERVATIVE CLOTHESURE

I wanna draw you out
I wanna wash away your false beliefs
Like someone’s arrogant mop
To rid that stale aroma
From your conservative clothesure
I’m that dowser rat who drowns all your lies
Safe conservative clothesure
Gonna set you free from mystical jive

I’m gonna tick you off
I’m gonna pinch a hole inside your soul
Amputate the preachers - redesign your inner features
‘till you’re clear of all those labels
In your conservative clothesure
I’m that drain-o drip that keeps you up nights
Safe conservative clothesure
Time to break the chains and take back your rights

I’m here to stay this is where I belong
To revive you from the coma you’re in
Make no mistake I was once where you are now
Anyhow...

I need to wake you up
I need to move you from the game show zone
You’ve been so green for so long
Gotta rip away the flags in your conservative clothesure
Like those tag sales out in Roosevelt Field
Safe conservative clothesure
Time to see those golden arches for real

I’m here to stay this is where I belong
To revive you from the coma you’re in
Make no mistake I won’t stop until you see - what I see!
No more conservative clothesure
