One of my favorite Nick tunes. He wrote it in response to his then recent break up with his first girlfriend. I think I may have helped with a lyric "you light the match and run for cover" but it's totally a DiMauro angle. His chord changes are spiffy and I love the way the key changes from F minor to F major when he sings "So Let It Go" . What sticks out in my mind about this song is the recording of the piano part. We didn't have a computer yet and we were striving for swiss accuracy. The touch sensitivity couldn't be turned off on the Mirage keyboard so we were forced to punch in every chord and every couple of measures of bass. In the end it payed off. The performance is as tight as a well digger's ass. The harmonies Nick and I sang were originally arranged by Paul Barkan but we felt his ideas were little too complicated for this "pop" tune. We used simple block harmonies instead. Nick played all keys and Jerry Palisi does some of his best guitar work. (This is a more refined version of "My Love's Better Than Nothin" and would be a good Summer of love number for Huey Lewis and The News.)
Note the intro horn part. It was an exact rip of Fagen's "I.G.Y". During play back I muted part of it and that changed the rhythm a bit.
