When I was at Backdoor Studios from 1987-89 my friend Chris Pati worked on a lot of 90's dance tune projects with female singers. It was not a style I favored but some of Chris' productions were inspiring. One such tune he wrote and vocalist Deena Charles sang was called "Only Tell Me". That recording actually featured drummer Billy Cobham's brother, Wayne Cobham on trumpet. It was a hot track. I imagined I could come up with something in that vein and maybe get some hot chick to sing it. Never happened. I found two demos of this song. One had me singing a gibberish scratch vocal and the other was a pretty good recording of just the backing tracks. That backing track is what was used here. I came up with the parts and the lyrics at Suburban Hermit Studios II in Stony Brook around the time of the Covid-19 pandemic. Some of the verse melody reminds me of the song "On That Day" residing on the "Life Here, It's Anybody's Guess" CD. Makes sense since both ideas were conceived around that time.
