Words and Music © 1986 by Nick DiMauro and John Tabacco

It started off as an idea Gian DiMauro sang. Nick was duly inspired and quickly wrote the music for the verse. I came in and helped construct the bridge ("Sad how she twists and turns.."). Nick then finished the rest of the melody. We recorded the basics in the computer that night. We penned the twisted lyrics soon after in my bedroom. Nick did a deranged vocal / rap alla David Byrnes of The Talking Heads. We sang background vocals and mixed them down with a flange effect from the newly purchased REV 7 on to 2 tracks. Jerry came in and we gave him specifics about the guitar part and the super exciting dueling solo. Some bright orchestration was added and bang: Our one and only Techno Pop Tune. We were psyched. So much so we re-recorded it again, this time using the computer synced up with the tape machine and then for a third time onto 24 tracks in 1991 at MVR. Jim Dexter plays the guitar on this latest version. Fittingly it was the first recording I played for Chris Pati at Backdoor Studios and the last recording Nick and I worked on at his Centerport studio. It's one my favorites and Dan Robinson's too.

lyrics

THE GIRL'S ON FIRE

They say she wants to be a real party goer
She doesn't like to sit at home
She sits around the parlor with her french hair blower
Lickin' ketchup off of polished chrome

She's got a twtichin' and her legs all furry
She's floppin' on the styrofoam
She keeps a cooler in her pocket loaded with her favorite beverage
And the stuff inside'll make ya groan
Dear God!

Sad how she twists and turns but never really gets enough
Who would have thought the burns would produce
the proper muscle for such magical stuff?

THE GIRL'S ON FIRE
THE GIRL'S ON FIRE
DA DA DA THE GIRL'S ON FIRE
THE GIRL'S ON FIRE

The girl's got no respect for food and fine religion
No sense of what is wrong or right
I caught her just the other day with my new rosaries in the kitchen
Strappin’ turkeys down with all her might

Is there nothing sacred in this world of lust and degradation?
How’'s this scuzzy kind of crab cake for a friend?
She always leaves the windows open even when we're on vacation
Gets mascara in my perfect coffee blend
Dear God!

Sad how she twists and turns but never really gets enough
Who would have thought the burns would produce
the proper muscle for such magical stuff?
