Composed by Harry Warren, with lyrics by Mack Gordon
Published by Bregman, Vocco and Conn

Singer-songwriter Tom Gould asked me if I could do an arrangement of this 40's tune for his wife Melissa. The version he wanted me to replicate was a 1960 arrangement sung by Chris Montez. Up to that point I had never heard of this song but I complied as I thought it would be a good ear training exercise and as a bonus I was going to get paid for my efforts. I tossed off the recording in a few hours. Tom was happy about it. Forward a few months I come across the title of the song in my computer. What's this?, I think. I had no idea what it was. After a brief listen I recognized it and thought the arrangement wasn't half bad. Since I hate to leave songs unfinished (there was no vocal on the track) I took it upon myself to actually learn the melody and lyrics and have a go at it. Barely in my vocal range in spots but I gave it my best shot. Funny thing is as I was recording the vocal, the TV was on in the background with the sound muted. I didn't pay much attention to it. After I executed my vocal (walking back into the room with the TV), I quickly recognized the movie to be "Big" starring Tom Hanks. I un-muted the TV sound and it was just at the scene where Tom is walking down the spiral staircase in a ridiculous white tux preparing to mingle at the office party. Meanwhile, there is a piano player and small group in the background playing a tune. It sounds familiar. All of a sudden it occurs to me that they are playing "The More I See You"! So I took this as a sign that I should maybe work on this arrangement a bit more and release it as a single. A bit of nostalgia for the old folks! Consequently, I changed some of the chords to put a little more edge to it's initial sweetness and there you have it. It's a decent song I grew to like. Now, will anybody actually listen to it? Worlds have turned on such thoughts.
