The verse of this song was based on an idea I recorded back in 1980.
It lurks on a 1/4 inch reel to reel perhaps never to be heard from again. But I remembered the basic melody for over thirty years. At some point in a casual conversation I heard my mother say "When you're right, you're right". But she didn't just speak it, she sort of sang it. It sounded like a hook and so I grafted the two ideas together. Joe Gioglio diligently worked out a tasty guitar solo and consequently we did perform this song live at a house concert Marci Geller hosted It was at there I met the late, great folk writer, Jack Hardy. He said he liked the tune. Bonus!

lyrics

WHEN YOU'RE RIGHT, YOU'RE RIGHT

I always think the universe is out to get me - get me bad
I bang my head – it’s never ending
You always told me that I live my life like someone picking scabs
I never give them time for healing

When you’re right you’re right
And there is nothing I can do about it
When you’re right you’re right
So Simple
Embrace each day
Until that day is through

I always worry that the worst of it is right around the bend
I live in fear of a disaster
Your passive wisdom sometimes sneaks it’s way into my inner ear
But still I grimace – what a loser

When you’re right you’re right
There is nothing I can do about it
I can fight the fight
But all I end up is more aggravated
When you’re right you’re right
So Simple
Embrace each day
Until that day is through

When you’re right you’re right
The road signs - I refuse to follow
When you’re right you’re right
My decisions based on pride are so hard to swallow when I’m wrong
Go ‘head Blame me
What I do is meant to be
But just maybe… that could change

(Gioglio guitar solo)

When you’re right you’re right
There is nothing I can do about it
I can fight the fight
But all I end up is more aggravated
When you’re right you’re right
There is nothing I can do about it
When you’re right you’re right
So Simple
Embrace each day
Until that day is through
