Revised lyrics by JT

My high school friend Chirs Magri used to come over to my house in the early 80's and he'd make up with these bizarre, brilliant little tunes. I used to record them on my Akai 2 Track reel to reel tape recorder. I'd play drums. He'd play guitar and then I overdubbed his vocal, trombone, banjo etc... He was so brilliant coming up with words and music so quickly I would just sit back, laugh and marvel at his genius. We'd finish a song in an hour or two and then he'd leave to go back to college. This went on for about four years. In any event, I lost touch with Chris during the mid 80's and my sister tracked him down in 1990. She asked him if he could give her a birthday greeting for my 31st birthday video she was making. Well, not only did he wish me a happy birthday, he actually wrote me this funny ass song and recorded it on his kid's Playskool™ tape recorder. I loved it and never forget it. Unfortunately, Chris' recording quality was pretty sub-par and thus a bit too grating on the ears for general aural consumption. So it just sat in the back of my mind for a long time. Then one day in 2010 a close friend (who will go nameless) was turning forty. I thought it might be cool to resurrect Chris' song, update it a bit and record it for "Mr. turning forty". This is that recording (minus my friend's name). From my friend's reaction I don't think he took too kindly to the song. Oh well, you win some you lose some. But it was all in fun. Seriously. A piece of musical history passed down to the next generation - right? Well, I thought it was a good idea and I was happy to perform it.

Chris Magri by the way became a college physics teacher and one of those guys who is always on the look for stray asteroids that may impact our planet. Thank’s for doing that Chris. Appreciate it.

I haven’t seen him since 1984.

lyrics

YOU'RE OLD

The day that you turn 40 is the day you won't forget
Your memory intact 'till 42
But liver spots and argyle socks are in your future yet
So give it up there's nothing you can do because

You're Old
You're Old
Your desiccated skin hangs off your flesh like condoms worn to long
Oh yeah
You're out of style and boring sitting 'round and telling stories of the good old days when Journey wrote the songs

When kidney aliments strike you and you soak your teeth at night
And no one else alive still owns CDs
When stewardesses help you first when you go on a flight
And trying to sing a song just makes you wheeze

You know...
You're Old
You're Old
Your desiccated skin hangs off your flesh like condoms worn to long
Oh yeah
You're out of style and boring sitting 'round and telling stories
of the good old days when Journey wrote the songs

Well in case you feel irrelevant well_______ you're not alone
A lot of people see you that way to
Being ancient is distinguished so please don;t whine and grown
Or you'll have no friends to wipe the dust off you

Now that you're old
You're Old
Your desiccated skin hangs off your flesh like condoms worn to long
(floppin' ion the wind)
You're out of style and boring sitting 'round and telling stories
of the good old days when Journey wrote the songs
And don't forget Phil Collins
Sitting 'round and telling stories
of the good old days when Journey wrote the songs
